This post is a bit late, but here are a few photos from our 2014 Heinrich Lab Holiday Party at Old Town Pizza.
Our talented 4th-year graduate student, Lillian Klug, recently contributed her thoughts about future prospects for PhD students in this OHSU article, “Alternate Reality.” Regardless of which path they choose, we can’t wait to see what’s next for our amazing PhD candidates!
The Heinrich Lab is happy to welcome Jay Hoffarth, our returning summer research assistant! Jay graduated from PSU with a BS in Biology in June 2014 and plans to take a year off before pursuing a graduate degree in Biology. He is not only adept at folding proteins, as you can see in this photo, he is also incredibly efficient at making buffers in a hurry, doing Western Blots, generating DNA out of thin air (well, the e. Coli help a little), and generally maintaining a baseline of sanity in the lab. Thank you, Jay! Please never leave.
On December 20th, we gathered once again at Old Town Pizza for our annual Holiday Party, White Elephant Gift Exchange, and Ugly Sweater Contest. We all look forward to this opportunity to catch up, share a few laughs, eat some good food, and celebrate together. The White Elephant Exchange is a fun chance to display our humorous spirit of giving and the Ugly Sweater Contest is an opportunity to show off our flare for style.
Happy Holidays from the Heinrich-Corless staff!
On Sunday, October 6th, Dr. Chris Corless attended the 2013 GIST Cancer Research Fund New York Walk for the Cure. Despite the damp weather, there were plenty of attendees and Dr. Corless was pleased to have the opportunity to catch up with many friends. All of the funds raised from these events go directly to GIST research with the hope of finding a cure.
Additionally, Dr. Michael Heinrich participated in the GCRF Walk for the Cure in San Jose, California, on October 20th. This annual fundraising event was originally organized by Irene Wing and it is in her memory that the participants gathered in an effort to eradicate this devastating disease.
On Wednesday, May 15th, 2013, we enthusiastically reunited with patients and supporters of the GIST Cancer Research Fund for our Annual GIST Breakfast meeting at OHSU. Dr. Heinrich, Dr. Corless, and our lab personnel look forward to this gathering every year, as it gives us a chance to see familiar faces and share the excitement of our latest GIST research efforts. This year, the GCRF presented us with an incredibly generous donation of $125,000. We feel honored to be included among the beneficiaries of their tireless fundraising efforts and, with their outstanding support, we can continue to strive to find a cure for GIST cancer.
On December 14th, we gathered once again at Old Town Pizza for our annual Holiday Party and White Elephant Gift Exchange. We all look forward to this opportunity to catch up, share a few laughs, eat some good food, and celebrate together. The White Elephant Exchange is a fun chance to display our humorous spirit of giving.
This year, we also introduced an Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest and the competition was fierce. After a measure of applause, the esteemed winners collected their prizes. Thanks to everyone who participated and congrats to the prize winners, Lindsay Chandler and Marina Pukay! Finally, everyone posed outside for a group photo.
Happy Holidays from the Heinrich-Corless staff!
